First Thoughts: Black Ops MP Trailer

While it does look epic I do have some concerns, but first check it out for yourself.

Now before I start I just want to say that I am aware that you cannot judge a game by it’s teaser trailer. I also want to make sure everyone knows that I am not a MW2 hater. I just have a love/hate relationship with it and would take WaW over it any day of the week. I like it but think it was overhyped and didn’t deliver. But I still enjoy playing it occasionally with a few good friends.

Now on to business. My first concern is that it has a MW2 look to it. Which could be good a good and a bad thing. The reason this concerns me is because of the bad experiences I have had with MW2. That is most likely why I have a biased view against MW2 in general.

On a similar thought, if Black Ops plans to release a beta it could avoid most of the major issues that have caused my love/hate relationship towards MW2. Notice how i say most, not all. There are always bound to be glitches and idiots who exploit them. But a beta can help tremendously in that area. As I have stated in past rantings, big releases such as any Halo or COD title should have a beta. There are just so many people playing that the potential for issues will be found and exploited right away.

Next thing that bothered me was the killstreaks. I was really crossing my fingers for fixed 3, 5, and 7 killstreaks. Wishful thinking methinks. But that doesn’t totally ruin things as long as a barebones playlist is an option. That will keep me happy.

This of course is only the first MP trailer, and while it didn’t “wow” me they way I wanted, it still got me excited for November. I still have faith that Treyarch will deliver with this game.

I really want to hear other’s opinions on this one. First thoughts?

MW2 Easter Egg

Here’s a little something you might find in the MP map Underpass on MW2

I’m assuming it real/official since Fourzerotwo posted it on his blog yesterday with this to say

As far as I’m concerned, thats what you get for banging someone’s door.

Highly amusing.

EDIT: Word on the street is that it’s a fake, still pretty funny though.

A WaW Weekend

Somehow I never get tired of playing this game. While I do still enjoy MW2 every now and again, I can only stand it for so long. I get frustrated with the people playing and the 439048290 messages offering 10th prestige lobbies. Not that WaW doesn’t have both I just find that there is less of it.

From Search and Destroy to (REAL) Capture the Flag to Zombies, that’s how my gaming time was spent this weekend. It makes me smile that there are still thousands of people playing this game even after the release of MW2. With Black Ops coming out the end of this year I predict more people dusting off their WaW and remembering what an awesome job Treyarch did with Their COD title.

So how did the rest of you peeps spend your game time this weekend?

Nice try IW

Yesterday Infinity Ward’s Fourzerotwo had this to say on his blog

Just uploaded two new playlists to Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer that allow you to play public matches with no Killstreaks in a variety of game modes. This update is currently available on Xbox Live, and will be coming to PC and Playstation 3 alongside the Resurgence Package DLC the week of July 6th. The exact details of each new playlist are below:

Barebones Pro:

Play Team Deathmatch and Free-for-All. All Killstreak rewards are disabled.

Players: 4-8

*Xbox LIVE Party Chat allowed

Objective Barebones Pro:

Play Domination, Demolition, HQ Pro, and Capture the Flag. All Killstreaks rewards are disabled.

Players: 8-12

*Xbox LIVE Party Chat allowed.

I guess he has a different definition of “barebones” than many of us. I’m not being ungrateful for the new playlists I’m saying did he listen to the players at all? Taking out the killstreak rewards does not equal barebones.

Removing killstreaks is only the tip of the iceberg when you’re talking about making a barebones playlist. Perks, attachments, and deathstreaks should be removed for a playlist to be deemed “barebones”. It should just be you and your gun.

It’s a nice attempt at getting back some players IW but alas you have failed once again at satisfying the masses. Too little too late.

So, how bout those new maps?

Yesterday the second (most likely final) map pack was released for Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox 360. Like the previous pack, it took half the day for it to show up for download on consoles. After what happened the last time, they really couldn’t be more prepared? But that’s not the point.

The point is, is the Resurgence pack worth the 1200 Microsoft Points? That depends on who you’re talking to. As much as I complain about MW2 I keep coming back to it. But most of my gripes now are with the people that play it rather than maps and such.

My answer is yes. The maps are worth the buy if you are still playing MW2 these days. Strike and Vacant are our COD4 maps and Fuel, Carnival, and Trailer Park are the new additions. I of course am a sucker for nostalgia moments and enjoy the COD4 maps the most. Good memories from my first COD MP experiences.

I think the only map I dislike from this pack it Fuel. It is just too freaking big and complicated. God help you if you land in a Free-for-All game there. Otherwise I’m enjoying the new maps and am ready for them to be integrated into the regular playlists.

What does everyone else think?

Patience People

Just chill for a little bit my gamer friends, the maps will come soon. This should be no surprise to players after what happened on release day of the last map pack. So just sit tight and wait. Hope none of you stayed up until midnight waiting for it.

I will have a review as soon and it becomes available for me/I have a chance to play it.

~~~~~UPDATE~~~~~
If the pack does not display on your console try using this link to add it to your queue via xbox.com
MW2 Double XP
If you’re not really into the whole cookout and parade thing this Memorial Day, you might want to take advantage of this long weekend’s double XP on MW2. So if you’ve been waiting for a good time to prestige, now would be a smart time to do it. Get those pesky early levels out of the way quickly.
Also don’t forget to do your part for the Vets this Memorial Day by checking out the Call Of Duty Endowment (CODE). Enjoy the long weekend (those of you that have one)!!
Activision Gives Back to Vets
The Call of Duty Endowment (CODE), a non-profit public benefit corporation, which helps soldiers transition to civilian careers after their military service. CODE focuses its resources on assisting organizations that provide job placement and training to veterans, as well as engaging the media and public forums to raise awareness about the issue. Activision Blizzard launched the organization in October 2009, with a commitment to donate and raise millions of dollars for the cause. To help guide the endowment, CEO Bobby Kotick has recruited an advisory board composed of respected veterans representing the various service branches. Just as our men and women in the armed forces fought to protect our nation and liberties, CODE will fight to ensure that they find a career they deserve on leaving the military.
Memorial Day is upon us gamers. It’s a time that should be spent honoring those who served and continue to serve our country. If you are looking for an easy way you can honor the Vets check out the CODE facebook page. Click on the “Like” button and Activision will increase their donation to HHUSA (Hire Heros USA) by $1.
So put down the controller for two seconds this long weekend and join in the effort.
Countdown to Resurgence Map Pack
So we are about a week away from the release of the second map pack for MW2 entitled the Resurgence Package. Here’s what you’ll be getting…
Via modernwarfare2.com
Carnival,” a large abandoned theme park that offers lots of unique vantage points that work well for all game modes. The once vibrant rides now sit idle and neglected as perfect cover points in one of the most original multiplayer locations for Modern Warfare 2.
Fuel,” a massive oil refinery with extremely long sightlines great for medium- to long-range firefights. The spacious surroundings offer a great sniper advantage; offices, warehouses, and buildings house objectives and provide opportunity for close-range firefights.
Trailer Park,” a medium-sized mobile estate with a maze of tight flank routes and lots of cover. Junk covered yards, deserted trailers, and debris-riddled surroundings offer intense firefights with a wide variety of vantage points and routes available.
Strike,” a large urban desert town, excellent for medium-to-large team games. The large monument, connecting streets, and surrounding buildings offer great firefights in Team Deathmatch, and great vantage points for objective team games.
Vacant,” a deserted Russian office complex offering a great mixture of interior and exterior combat. Long hallways with minimal cover points offer a fast escape route for potential runners, but high accuracy and fast aiming is required when advancing through this large complex.
You will notice that the last two maps are, again, COD4 maps. Oddly enough not word yet on a price  but I assume that it will hold the same 1200MP tag the Stimulus Package had.
I’ve taken a bit of a break from MW2 since becoming immersed in Red Dead Redemption but this map pack doesn’t look half bad. And as much as I will complain about the high price (assuming it’s 1200MP) I’m sure I will end up eating my words and hitting the download button.
What do you want from COD: Black Ops?
Treyarch’s own Josh Olin (aka @JD_2020) released this tweet today…
Alright let’s hear all your MP feedback. What did you love, what did you hate about all previous CoD’s? #CODBlackOps
This is your chance people, to get your own word in. Tell JD_2020 what you want or don’t want from the next CoD.
Personally, I want to see a Bare Bones playlist. That is at the top of my wish list and has been since the release of MW2. A playlist that make players rely on REAL skills (if they have any) and not just stacked up killstreaks and lame perks.
I would also request no game ending killstreaks. You should all already know how i feel about nukes.
I love small maps like Dome from WaW. It would be nice to see more of that. Maps that make camping and sniping nearly impossible. It’s good for my run and gun style of play.
I could go on and on but I want to her what you peeps want/don’t want.
